[mso] Re: Now 3D question for Linda

Linda,

Greg's fix applies mainly, I think, to the users originating the messages
with the spurious characters rather than to those receiving them.

The confusion occurs often not only at the end of lines but when an '=' sign
occurs (for example, in the quotation of an Excel formula). I have come to
accept that some messages (possibly those sent in an HTML format) will
inevitably be corrupted in this way.

My understanding is that 3D is the Hexadecimal ASCII value of the '=' sign,
so, in a case where a formula appears as '=3DSUM(A1:A5)' one simply ignores
the '3D' and reads it as '=SUM(A1:A5)'. (Strictly speaking, one should
REPLACE '=3D' with '=' and '=20' with ' ' (space) and so on. I haven't
tested it, but I suspect that '=20' is a replacement for the HTML '&nbsp'.

Like me, I expect many regular readers do this mental conversion. It will
continue to confuse newer members, so it will regrettably continue to be an
issue.

Andrew
