Robert--
Have you tried starting Outlook with the '/Recycle' command line switch?
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;296192) That will
force it to re-use an existing instance of Outlook (and may alert you to
what the real problem is when it finds that can't be done.)
In my experience, this usually happens when a third-party add-in is
attempting to access some Outlook functionality (such as some PDA
synchronization software and the like), and those external processes hang.
I've also seen it happen when Outlook is set to regularly send/receive even
when offline; that will cause a hang up nearly every time, especially if
you've set the S/R interval to a very low number.
BTW (and slightly OT): 'HijackThis' is safe for *any* system...or it's
dangerous for any system, too. Which is to say that, on its own, it does
nothing but tell you what's running on your machine; you just have to be
careful what you do with that information, and to make sure that you don't
start killing and/or deleting things you really need.

No. I am sort of afraid to. I am using a Raid system, and they seem to give
advice most beneficial to non-Raid systems. Do you know if "Hijack This" is
safe for Raid systems now? Thank you.

Tried "Hijack this" yet?
