[mso] Multiple Choices in Access

This is driving me nuts...

I'm actually dealing with a table containing hundreds of records but this is
a sample.  
If Code1 for ID is SALJ, doesn't matter what's in Code2, I want the record
for SALJ.
If Code1 for ID is SALS but Code2 is SALJ, I want the record for Code2,
again SALJ
If Code1 and Code2 is SALS (no SALJ) I'll take SALS but I won't be happy
about it.

I have this table in Access

ID      Code1   Code2
501     SALS    SALS
522     SALJ    SALJ
522     SALS    SALS
565     PRES    DREL
512     SALJ    SALS
555     PRES    SALJ

This is the result I want

ID      Final_Code
501     SALS
512     SALJ
522     SALJ    
555     SALJ
