[mso] Microsoft Word Formatting Question

Does anyone know if something has changed recently (in the last 6
months) with Word?  I am getting so frustrated trying to format
documents.  When I highlight a selection and change the format (font
size, bold, underline, etc) the entire document changes.  If I press
Ctrl Z, the formatting applies only to what I had selected in the first
place, but I'm getting tired of having to Ctrl Z every time I change a
format.  
 

This is happening both at work and at home in Word and Outlook (of
course I use Word as my e-mail editor).  I have tried researching the
web and checked Microsoft's webs site, but can't find any mention of
this anywhere.

 

Any help from the group would be greatly appreciated.
