As originally stated:
John Grierson has a Lexmark printer. In Landscape mode in Word the default
minimum size for the Left edge margin is the same as that for the Top margin in
Portrait mode (0.17cm). The default minimum size for the Right edge margin in
Landscape is the same as that for the Bottom margin in Portrait mode (1.28
cm). In Protrait mode the Top edge with the smaller margin goes through the
printer first and the Bottom edge with the larger margin is last. Many
printers have this characteristic of a larger default margin at the Bottom to
hold the paper. In Landscape mode the Right edge with the larger margin goes
through the printer first so the printer tries to print too close to the left
edge of the paper.
In my HP Deskjet printer the default margins are as they should be for printing
the Top edge (smaller margin) first in Portrait mode and Right edge (smaller
margin) first in Landscape mode.
Someone indicated that the default settings for the two orientations were set
in the device driver for the printer.
So John was trying to correct the default margins for Landscape. Contacting
Lexmark resulted in the usual response that it is not the printer problem, but
is the application problem. His last attempt at installing a new printer
driver resulted in the Left edge being printed first in Landscape mode. That
sounds perculiar to me. Anyway, he wants the right end to print first for some
reason. I was asking why it was important which side printed first. I assumed
that the default margins remained as before with the larger margin on the Right
side for Landscape which should be okay if the Left edge now goes through the
printer first.

==============================May I ask why the right side has to print first?
Once printed it should not
matter whether the left or right edge was first through the printer. The
only difference would be that for one the page would have to be rotated to
read it after printing.

The question has caused me to realize that despite all the discussion I do
not understand what the problem is.
Can someone tell me the problem?
