Peter,

I am like Anthony, I never used the 97 version but do have the 2000 version.
The cost is roughly $600 for the upgrade version. It will allow you to
create unlimited, royalty-free run-times of your program. The latest
version (1.5) actually includes a version of SQL Server for you to use in
development. Since your client doesn't want Access, you should be able to
get this version, install it in a new folder so you still have 97 and then
convert your database to 2000 and create the run-time there. Anthony is
right though, make sure you have all the glitches out, it gets to be a major
pain to have to redo it if you don't. Also remember that all code has to
have error-trapping since it can't just stop and let the user look at it.

Then the user will lose the data in the previous version of the exe. Someone
mentioned MSDE. You could go with that and write a VB or ASP front end. Then
your client would not need Access or the runtime.

Off list is Ok with me.

Ok,, understood, but couldn't you simply fix the glitch and re-burn the =
EXE?

I need some further info (if and when you have time).

Can I have your permission to email you privately? No sense to busy-up =
this list with a subject that no one is interested in.

It was expensive. I never used the 97 version, I have the 2000 version.
Creating a runtime database is pretty straight forward. When the runtime =
is
created all the code is locked, not even the creator can get to it, the =
same
with the database itself. The exe that is distributed needs to be glitch
free, because you can't go back and fix it.
