Several ways to do this, Robert. If using VBA, I'd point you to
InStrRev. If using formulae, it's slightly harder, but not much. Check
out my article here, where I do the same thing, but with spaces:

If I import into excel path and filenames (Such as
F:\CHAP_02\EXECUTE\practice\TIMEMULT.EXE, how can I break that up so
that one cell holds the path, and the cell next to holds the filename?

Yes, I know how to find a character such as "\" but I have no idea to to
determine if I have found the last occurrence of "\".

Example:

D6: F:\CHAP_02\EXECUTE\practice\TIMEMULT.EXE
E6: F:\CHAP_02\EXECUTE\practice\
F6: TIMEMULT.EXE

Looks, easy, but I have no idea how to find the last occurrence of a
character.

Thanks.

Robert
