Mike, try insert symbol, choose font Arial Unicode MS, subset Enclosed
Alphanumerics. That set seems to have upper and lower case alphas in a
circle. I missed seeing them the first time, didn't scroll down far
enough, it's pretty far down to the bottom. Sorry to have sent you in the
wrong direction on the autoshape idea. If you don't have that font, not
sure where to go from there, but check that one out. Thanks, Cathy

I tried the small circle autoshape and what happened was it worked, but I
could not get it in line with the rest of the sentence. It needs to look
like it was just a typed letter. Any other suggestions?

Just a thought if you're not finding it as a ready symbol . . . insert a
small circle autoshape, right click, add text, add your 'R' or' L'.
I am writing a paper for a class and I need to use symbols for left and
right. The symbols are just the first letter with a circle around it. If I
try to use Insert - Symbol, then look, I see the "Registered" mark (an "R"
with a circle around it). That may not be what it is. I think I should be
able to use that, but how do I get a circle around an "L"?
