[mso] Re: I dont believe this can be done ...Hyperlink?

Hello! I am sorry not to have been very explicit!
In the Header of each document is a Revision Number and an Issue Date. The
Document Register comprises a table, the first two columns of which are
Document Date and Issue Number.
For any one document, I copy the date and issue number text from the Header,
and in the Document Register I paste these items in the relevant columns using
Edit>Paste Special>Paste Link>HTML Format. So far so good. (I should
mention that initially I used the option MS Word Document Object in the Paste
Special dialogue but this pastes the selected text in a frame which I then
cannot reformat to fit the Table cell where it is pasted.)
If I now change the Issue Number and save the document, and then open the
Document Register, the entry in the Issue Number cell does not reflect the
change. If I left click and select Update Link, I get a dialogue that tells me
"Objects in this document contain links to filesthat cannot be found. The
linked information will not be updated". Occasional while testing by trial and
error, I have had thechange show in the register biut I am not aware of
anything I have done differently on this occasions.
Thanks, Roger

prettydifficult to suggest a better method? If you can provide some details
about what you're doing...maybe we can offersuggestions.Dian D.

Hi! Maybe I am not as smart as I thought! I have been experimenting with Paste
Special and it all seems very hit and miss to me! Sometimes a link will update
when the original document is changed and saved, and other times I get the
message saying the linked information will not be updated because the document
cannot be found! The document is in the same place it has always been!Is this a
known problem with Word 2003? Thanks, RogerHi again, Below is a question
posted earlier today and to which I have already found an answer! Sorry to have
bothered the group but I really did not think I would be able to find the
answer myself! If anyone has a better way than using the Paste Link option in
'Paste Special' please post a note, thanks.
Roger
Hi, Without going into too much boring detail, let me put to the group a
suggestion an auditor made yesterday!During a comprehensive audit of our
Quality System, I was caught out for not having kept up to date a register of
documents, which records document titles, dates of issue, revision numbers,
etc. Some of the dates were not up to date!!The auditor suggested - maybe there
is a way to get the date column to update automatically whenever the subject
document is itself changed, by means of a hyperlink??? I can see the point he
is making, but cannot imaging how it could be done.If anyone has any ideas and
can point me to a possible solution I am happy to work at it, and would in fact
enjoy the challenge, but right now I dont think it is possible. Thanks for any
suggestions!
Bye for now, Roger
