Firstly, can I assume that C1 contains text - i.e. a column heading?
If so, then the formula
=3DSUM(C1,A2,-B2)
in C2 will treat C1 as zero and give you the correct starting total in C2.
Then simply copy/paste this down column C. Excel will update the cell=20
references for you in the normal way.
Don't copy/paste the formula text, copy/paste the whole cell.
