As far as I know, there IS no global shortcut for either of those things,
Robert.  Formatting fonts in Excel is done thru formatting CELLS, so it's
not the same as formatting  text in Word...same with background
colors...Excel cells and Word table cells are not the same thing.

I am not looking in the right places. I am trying to find a list of
short-cuts that work Globally in Office. I.e., one that will bring up a font
window in both Word and Excel, a short-cut that will allow you to select a
background color in either Word's table, or Excel's cells, etc.
Does anyone have any good suggestions please?
