Hi David and Linda,
Your advice was (not surprisingly) exactly correct. I copied and pasted the
downloaded file into the Control Panel/Fonts folder, and the font became
immediately available in a word document that was already open. No re-booting
or re-launching of Word was necessary.
I mis-spoke when I used "font styles" when I should have used "font names".
