Eureka! I think I found the problem, and hope I fixed it: one of my =
routines
which uses my machine as an SMTP server was setting output to convert =
output
to HTML before sending. I believe (fingers crossed) that's why the
quoted-printable format characters were becoming visible. I've plucked =
out
the offending portion, and now I'm keeping my fingers crossed...
