Yup! That's exactly what I just tried and did...as per previous email.
Thanks, Vic!
If anyone needs to do this...here's the stepXstep (no relation to Linda &
Vic<g>)...
* make Outlook a little smaller than the screen by dragging the window in a
bit
* right click on your desktop and choose New/Folder...give it a name
* go back to Outlook and open the folder you want to convert
* click inside the folder to set the focus on those messages
* hit Ctrl/A to select all in the folder
* RIGHT click and DRAG them all out of Outlook...over to the folder you
created on your desktop. You'll know you're "in" it when you hover over and
the folder gets darker
* Release the mouse button...and wait as long as your processor takes...fyi,
mine is 1.33gig (thank you Greg) and took a second or two to pass 280+
* double click to open the folder on your desktop and you'll see a bunch of
*.msg files. If you double click them, they'll open as OL...stand alone
messages.
* RIGHT click on a blank space inside that folder, click New/Text Doc (I'm
on WinXP Pro on this system...but I know there's a Notepad file in previous
versions...choose that if you don't see TXT file...same thing)
* Type in this...(Thanks, Vic!): ren *.msg *.txt
* Save the file by clicking File/Save and name it something like
RENAME.BAT...must have the BAT extension to stand for "batch file".
* You'll see that file in the folder
* double click that batch file (*.bat)
* It'll convert all the files in that folder from [whateverName].msg
(Outlook) files...to [sameName].txt files...as fast as your processor can
crank them out

Well...I'm wondering if you use Dian's suggestion of dragging them all
into one folder on your desktop, if you could use some kind of bat file
or Windows macro/vb thang to rename all the extensions in one shot?
Vic?
