[mso] Re: Exporting Mail

Just so you understand!!!!

The cataloger you download is NOT what we have been talking about here!

Although the cataloger is a great way to do it if you want to use it along
with other methods, you use the cataloger to link individual files to one
master hyperlinked file. Then you can add descriptions into the table
fields, so you can sort the table by columns and easily find what you
need...then just click to get the doc where it sits on your HD. I use this
for tons of stuff, like music files, code snippets, support replies, family
letter, and yes, even email once I've pulled it from Outlook.

However, FIRST you have to get the stuff from outlook...and THAT is what we
were discussing here now. Vic and I came up with a way to do it using my
method of dragging emails to a desktop folder and Vic's passed the dos
commands for a batch file so you can do a mass convert from message files to
text files.

But the final result was that you get text files with a lot of binary
garbage in it. So then Greg jumped in and wrote a windows script files that
takes all those messy text files and quickly cleans all the junk out of the
text file so you end up with a nice neat text document with all the info
still in place, but all the garbage text removed...so you can easily read
the document.

And I haven't yet posted Greg's winscript download on our site cos' I need
to write directions, but right now I'm too busy trying to finish up the
August issue of TechTrax so that I can publish it later tomorrow.

I'll let everyone here know where they can get the details once I get a
chance to toss it on the site in a day/two.

If there's anyone here who can't wait and wants the script NOW...you can
email me at dian@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx GREG'S EMAIL WINSCRIPT in the subject
and I'll forward it right to you now. But DON'T ask for directions to use it
now. It'll come as a .wsf.txt file and you have to remove the txt extension
to get the script in raw/working format. But if you can't do that and figure
it out on your own, you'll have to wait for the correct details cos' I don't
have time now to write emails with instructions. That'll be on the site when
I post the download in a few days.

Later...

BlankI'm posting this to the group in case others are interested in this as
well.
I'm a day late on this, but I've been following the exporting thread since I
need to do something about the size of my mailboxes. I went to Dian's site
and downloaded the cataloger. I'm not clear on how to use this. Did I miss
a readme file about this somewhere?
Also, in another group that I belong to, they talk about exporting the mail
to an access database. Which method is better as far as being able to
retrieve information when I need it?

Thanks,
