Thanks...I did try the parens, but not before the SUM...so I'll give that a
shot. I did try =SUM((##:##)-##) but that didn't seem to work. I'll keep
messing with it.

Im a newbie myself, but you might try putting the sum(c2:c8) in
paranthesis so it can do that first
=3D(SUM(C2:C8))-F9

Okay, I'm lousy with Excel functions. HOW do I format this...
=3DSum(c2:c8) [that part I know]
...but then I want that number...say it turns out to be 2500...I want to
subtract another number in order to get the final total. So it would be
something like this...but I get errors so I'm messing it up.
=3DSUM(C2:C8) - F9
