Looks like you have a space before and after F9 ... Get rid of the space ...
And make sure C2 thru C8 and F9 contain numbers or blanks ... Not text

If that doesn't fix it, let us know what there error is

=SUM(C2:C8)-F9

No spaces

Okay, I'm lousy with Excel functions. HOW do I format this...

=Sum(c2:c8) [that part I know]

...but then I want that number...say it turns out to be 2500...I want to
subtract another number in order to get the final total. So it would be
