[mso] Excel cells do not auto-expand when text is added?

 
I have a worksheet with merged cells and unmerged cells all of which have
wrap text selected, but when I add text to them so that it does wrap, the
cells do not expand to show all the text.

I have tried all sorts of work arounds to no avail. Any suggestions?
