[mso] Excel behaving badly

I have a spreadsheet which searches with a vlookup (1 sheet does the
search with the information on a different sheet).
For some obscure reason excel has decided that it will only do the search
if I save the spreadsheet rather than as it used to, when i hit the enter
button.
Has anyone got a good reason for this "outrageous" behaviour ?
