You can't put formulas in a text formatted field....text formatted fields
display exactly what you type into them...if you want to use a formula,
change the formatting to general
And, I'm not sure I understand what you are saying....the number isn't
showing up with the parentheses, etc. in Excel when you use the
Special>telephone number formatting?

Subject: [mso] Excel & Word
Hi All.
I have a field formatted special to display as telephone number. The actual
value is 1234567890. It looks like (123) 456-7890
When I use Word to merge this field it displays the actual value.
In Excel I tried to get the value so used functions left, mid and right in a
text formatted field. When I do that though what I see in the cell is the
formula, not the result.
I tried the control + ` to switch between formula and value but that did not
work.
HELP. please. thanks. /g
