[mso] Re: Excel Web Form Wizard Missing?

Good question, Linda, that's one I've been struggling with for a long time.
The excel worksheet is what the remote users are currently using and right
now I don't have a way to move them to anything else that is connected via
a web server or anything like that. So my plan B was to just create an
access form that would grab the fields from the excel forms when they were
submitted. I was intrigued by the Web Wizard idea and wanted to see if it
had any options that might help. Without a web server - the company has
many, but there are layers and layers of limitations with IT as to who can
actually publish to them without adding lots of extra cost and layers of
people. So we have learned to handle it ourselves with imports/appends
wherever we can grab the data.

I've been back and forth with FTP ideas, but find it is a very unstable
environment, especially because it is the first thing that gets whacked
when there are server overloads since it is deemed temporary data for
project exchange.

If you know of any ways to create a web server without really having a web
server and accomplish the same thing with remote sites, boy would I love to
find out more. My plan C now is to create a little sub access database to
send to each remote site that they can load on their desktops, servers,
wherever, it won't matter. I'll put a 'submit' button in there, and when
they've completed their data entry and submit, it will send me an excel
file I can append to my table.

Maybe I just don't know enough about it all, and sure would appreciate any
ideas. This data exchange is a problem for lots of other things we have
going on, and am very limited. Some ideas that were axed were setting up
the access databases on citrix/terminal server and giving sites rights,
upsizing an access database to the web. So we just exchange files and
email back and forth.

The tools I have available are FrontPage (I only have access to one web
server for a totally different project, and only do minor edits on an
existing website created by someone else), Access, Excel, Word. Every once
in a while I go back and re-visit FTP ideas, check out InfoPath, and other
things we don't use, but I keep coming back to a wall where there is no
authorization to move in any other direction.

Maybe I need to go back and press for a better solution again. Any more,
I'm all for finding something off the shelf that has a little flexibility
to customize, but not sure what is the best product that will allow remote
users to share live data.

Anyway, that's a brief overview, hth, Cathy

I guess I'm missing something, but if you are going to be putting it all
into Access anyway, why use Excel at all? Why not just use Access and let
Access make the web form and put it directly into the table? Since it's a
web form, it doesn't matter what software is installed on the remote users'
computers. Why put Excel in the middle in the first place?

Thanks. Hmm, maybe the instructions are out of date? I'm using 2002.
Maybe I need to keep looking. I really wanted to just make a form but my
form field edit box is greyed out and I didn't want to put vb form controls
in there.

My goal is to have a solid form they can only enter data in one format, and
not add rows, etc., as I'm going to simply be importing that data into an
access table. Remote users from all over will be completing the Excel
form, and I'm creating an automatic import that will just grab the data
each time a new form comes in, and append it to the access table. So
consistency was the key of what I was going for. I was looking at the web
form option because my form edit field being greyed out.

Maybe it's just handled differently in Excel, I'm used to Word form fields
and access. Is it all handled in Excel through setting protections on
cells?

Will switch directions, then, thanks.
