[mso] Excel: Occupying more than one cell ?

In some of the cells, I have this formula:
=IF(OR(MOD(EH2,400)=0,AND(MOD(EH2,4)=0,MOD(EH2,100)<>0)),1,0)
The answer will be 1 (one) or 0 (zero). But I am curious as to why that
occupies two cells? I did not merge them purposely.
I.e., if the formula is in Cell EK2, the answer is shown in cells EK2 and
EK3. What ever I have/had in EK3 is obscured, something I did not want.
Can I prevent this? My Excel book suggests un-merging them, but I did not
merge them to start with.
Thank you.
Robert
