oops - I haven't posted here in a long time, apparently even text / csv
files aren't allowed.
I have the sample csv file posted on my server at:

Hello All
I'm sure someone else has figured out how to do this already and I'm
hoping someone will point me in the right direction.
Here's the situation.
Currently, they get a spreadsheet dump from another program that lists
supervisors and subordinates in a format of:
some description including name of supervisor
subordinate
subordinate
etc.
some description including name of supervisor
subordinate
subordinate
etc.
some description including name of supervisor
subordinate
subordinate
etc.
and they manually select the supervisors name and paste it in the column
beside the subordinate and copy it down. This wouldn't be too bad for up
to about 10 names, but, for hundreds it is time consuming and leading to
repetitive stress problems.
Note there is a blank line after each supervisors list of subordinates.
What is needed is a simple way to pick the supervisors name out of the
"some description including name of supervisor" mumbo jumbo and paste it
in a new column next to the subordinates names.
The person inquiring about this only has Excel.
Col A = list of employees, naturally this would be on a separate tab or
in a separate file.
Col B = rough example of what the data dump form the other program would be.
Col C & D = Should be the results - Supervisors & Subordinates.
I figure with the list of all employees, there should be a relatively
way to find a match in the mumbo-jumbo cells to get the supervisor.
If there isn't a way to totally automate this, then how about a method
where a Supervisor-mumbo-jumbo cell is selected and a macro started
manually say with a Function key. While each supervisor would be
selected 1 at a time, this would be somewhat of an improvement.
Thanks
-Jim-
