Dian,
Freeze panes needs you to have a single cell selected to work properly.
It should be the leftmost, topmost cell you want to scroll freely, if
you see what I mean.

Subject: [mso] Excel - Freezing Frames
Okay...I'm working with Excel 2003. I select Rows 1, 2, 3 and click
Windows
> Freeze Frames. But I get a black line across and down some of the
> rows. It
appears that it's automatically freezing all the rows down to 14 and the
vertical line is between G/H???
Any idea what's going on...what I'm doing wrong???
TIA...
