Hmmm...did you not notice that my vlookup formula DID have "false" in it Ray? :-) Linda Publisher ~ ABC ~ All 'Bout Computers Owner ~ Linda's Computer Stop http://personal-computer-tutor.com FREE MS Office eBook Tutorial http://personal-computer-tutor.com/library.htm -----Original Message----- From: mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:mso-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ray Blake Sent: Tuesday, July 22, 2003 3:32 PM To: mso@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [mso] Re: Excel 2000 matching up rows and columns Don, This is a great tutorial from Linda. Make sure when you use the vlookup command you put 'false' in as the third argument. As I said in another recent post, what it means is, "Don't rely on the list of items in the first column of the table being in alphanumeric order - check every one of them until you get an exact match." Leaving it out is like saying, "The first column of the lookup table is definitely in alphanumeric order - if you get past the search phrase in the list and it's not there, don't keep looking, just use the nearest match". This would speed up your sheet if there were a lot of huge lookup tables in it, but here it's not even worth thinking about. Like I say, it's good practice always to include "FALSE" just in case it trips you up one day.
