I have tried:
Reboot: Yes.
Only file in Excel with this malady? Uh, yes and no. The files with *more*
than 60,500 records are acting this way. My Most of my other files are 500
records or so, and they are behaving.
Protection? None. I made the file myself.
Highlight the cells and copy/paste into a new file, does it still happen?
Yes.
McAfee (last update last night) says I am clean. Spybot{last update Apr 19}
says I am clean.
Removed my Excel addins with no improvement save a little faster by a few
seconds.
I am getting nervous I am looking at a reinstall of Office. I am going to
redo my study tomorrow, so it will be later than usual when I check email;
but suggestions comments, thoughts, ideas would be very much appreciated. (I
don't want to reinstall office unless I have no choice.)

Sorry about that first one...it just sent itself LOL
Anyway...let's start with the obvious, Robert. Did you try a reboot? Is
this the ONLY file in Excel where this is happening? Are you sure the file
isn't protected in some way? If you highlight the cells and copy them and
paste them into a new file, does it still happen?

I am using Excel 2000, with a fairly large sheet. Several columns are
formatted as date/time, but I want the date only. When I highlight the cell
and click Format, the format options do not appear.
Now I am wondering; could my sheet have too many formulas, too much data,
etc., that Excel cannot offer me the format options for cells? If not, how
do I fix this?
Using a 4g processor, with 4g memory.
Thank you.
Robert
