Robert,
I would suggest that you use another column and create a formula like
=3Dlen(a1)&a1 This will create a cell with a number followed by the =
letters.
Sort by that column.

Subject: [mso] Excel 2000: Forcing a specialized sort order? Possible?
Hello everyone. I am wanting to sort a list of alpha codes (either=20
single letter, double letter, or triple letter) in such a way they are=20
indeed
A
B
C
D
E
....
AA
AB
AC
AD
....
AAA
AAB
AAC
....
ZZZ
Right now, when I do a sort, it want to clump all the "A"s together=20
(yes, I understand why) but that means the sort results in something =
like: A
AA AAA B BA BAA C CA CAA <and so on>
Instead of
A
B
C
...
AA
AB
AC
BA
BB
BC
ZZ
AAA
AAB
AAC
...
and so on until
ZZZ
The last sort order is the one I trying to get Excel to do it in.
What (if anything) can I do to force my preferred sort order? Just add=20
two spaces in front of single letters and add a single space in front of =
the double letters? As simple as that?
Thank you.
Robert
