[mso] Re: Edits cannot save (Word)

Hey Robert...

This problem arises when you are working on a monster document, such as =
you
stated, and if your system resources are junked up with a lot of =
garbage.=20

So what you need to do is a little maintenance work to get things =
rolling
better.

First...locate the TEMP file on your system and delete all the garbage =
in
there. That file starts out and should be clear. But, hey, you =
know...all
those programmers<g> just love to open install apps in there and not all
remove the junk after. Or that's used for opening emails and crash file. =
So
as time goes on, it gets loaded with junk. Since Word also needs these
resources to work on docs...especially ones over a couple hundred pages =
and
worse with graphics and massive edits...you're sucking your system dry =
if
that directory isn't cleaned out.=20

That and a reboot should help some, but I'd strongly suggest that if you
have a loaded doc of nearly 600 pages...that you cut it up into smaller
subdocs as this problem can continue to occur.

Below are a couple article you should read to provide you with more =
detailed
info:

http://www.mousetrax.com/mastdoc.html

And since excessive and "piled on" formatting can also cause doc bloat, =
you
might want to check out this one as well...

And finally, if you decide not to chop up your doc and continue to use a =
doc
of that size, you might also want to keep this article handy, as you may
need it when errors start getting more serious and/or the normal.dot =
(master
template) become corrupt. It's loaded with troubleshooting suggestions =
and
an explanation of the Word architecture.

Good luck!

Hello everyone. I am new to this list. My name is Robert Carneal, and I =
am a
programmer by trade, I write programs aimed at people who use DOS only =
based
systems.

Ok, I have a 580-some page Microsoft word document that I am attempting =
to
edit by removing the graphics I do not want. I am using Office 2000. I =
am on
a Windows ME system. I have 11 Gig free on drive "C" and 60 Gig free on
Drive "D."

When I try to save me edits, it tells me the disk is full. It also tells =
me
it cannot make backups. I suspect there is attribute or setting =
somewhere on
the file that sets it to "Read Only" or something that indicates to Word =
it
cannot be edited. How can I change that please?

If I am completely off base with my guess of "Read Only," I would =
appreciate
any ideas or theories as to what's going and how to correct it.

Thank you, everyone.
