[mso] Editing a Word 2003 Document Containing a Macro

I have been given a word template that contains a macro. This macro runs
upon opening of the document and gathers information like Date, Client Name,
Address, Company Name, etc and populates these fields throughout the
document. I have been asked to clean up the format of the doc, like shading
some tables, lining up boxes/arrows/text in flow charts, etc. How do I make
these changes and still maintain the macro running properly? I've tried
makikng some changes and saving the document as a template, but when I open
up the new version, the macro doesn't run upon opening as it did before.
