I use a spreadsheet to keep track of each hospital admission's length of
stay (LOS) defined by ((discharge day - admit day)-1) ie admit Apr 3 and
discharge Apr 6=>LOS=3.
I would like to automatically, upon entering an admit and discharge date,
calculate the following values: LOS (this I can do) and quantify how many
days of this admission occured in each month. This is the LOS when the
admission fully lies within 1 month but becomes much more difficult when
admissions straddle 1 (or even 2 months). I would further like to be able to
add up all the "days" that actually occur in any given month. If there is a
"straddle" admission, the last day is not counted (hence the (-1) in the
formula occurs in the last month of the admission).
Is there a way to do this in Excel?
