[mso] Re: Database Integrity

Yes.

That should always be your plan of action.

I actually DRAW the layout on paper before doing any programming.

My drawing looks just like it would in the relationships screen. Little =
square boxes with field names, then I draw lines for the relationships.

Fun.. isn't it?

Another suggestion:

In the base table, you might want a Yes/No field named "Active".

This way you can filter JUST the active cars (or the Inactive) cars in =
your queries, forms and reports. This gives you the power of hiding data =
on the cars that have been sold or disposed of. Additionally, you might =
want to add a few fields on HOW the car was disposed of.

DisposedDate;
DisposalMethod;
SoldTo;

And so on. Remember... in the base table, you'll want all the things the =
car can ONLY HAVE ONE OF.

I also always use another checkbox field named "PrintTag". This way you =
can spit out reports on ONLY the cars you want and NO OTHERS.

You can add these fields when you first create the table. Later, if you =
find these fields to be useless then just delete them. Better having a =
few fields that turn out to be useless than NOT having a few you didn't =
think of. Not that either does any harm, but it gives you greater =
perception and depth into your design. The foundation is all so =
important.

Have fun.
