In 2003 for me I get different effects for horizontal vs vertical. With
horizontal:
- If I use tab to move between fields, it will pre-fill.
- If I use right arrow to move between fields (which is what I do) or mouse,
it doesn't pre-fill
With vertical (using down arrow or mouse), it will pre-fill.
But it only does it if the difference is +1 or +2, not for any other
increments I've tried. And the suggested number is highlighted ready to
simply be overtyped.
So it shouldn't slow you down at all. No extra keystrokes are needed.
And just occasionally, it's right. :-)

Thank you Dave (and Robert). I agree it's just one keystroke (and I never
enter data down - just across). But I'm used to using the Tab or Enter key -
switching to right arrow would be very klunky for me (my fingers know where Tab
and Enter are, but they would have to go hunting for the arrow <grin>).
The highlighting and overtyping is fine for text columns, but a date column
with an input editing rule causes an error popup - VERY annoying.
Onward and upward!
