[mso] Re: Convert A4 Word Document into A5 Word Document

Austine,

There are two things I might try.

The first and least hassle depends on your printer abilities. If your
printer is able to print 2 pages per sheet, then the printer driver will
reduce your A4 document so that it prints half-size, 2 pages to an A4 sheet.
You can then cut your A4 sheets in half and have A5 pages.

The other method is much more labor intensive!

First, note down the current sizes of all the scalable items in your
document: Margins, Fonts, Table Row and Column settings ... in fact,
anything that is changed by scaling down!

Next make a COPY of your document to work on!

Then, multiply all of those settings by 0.7071. You will find, for example,
that a 12pt font becomes 8.49 pts, so 8.5 pts would be a good compromise; a
14pt font reduces to 9.8994 - nearly 10pt and so on. I find that a
calculator (or an Excel spreadheet) comes in very handy here! If you have
applied styles to much of your document, then the process is a little
quicker (you can edit the style and apply it to everything which has that
style) - if not, then too bad!

You need to go through the whole document, resizing everything - fonts, left
and right and top and bottom margins, table cells and rows (yes, even the
left and right clearance in Table Properties, Cell, Options! Oh ... and
don't forget to change the Paper size to A5!

I hope this helps ... it's something that it would be lovely to have a macro
for but I don't think there is one readily available.

Andrew
