[mso] Cleaning Word2000 documents

Often when I copy the text from an email or web page, then paste same to
Word2000, bubbles similar to the temperature degree symbol appear randomly
between words and sometimes doubling up between sentences.
Attempting to do a find and replace has been unsuccessful.
Any suggestions?
