[mso] Re: Changing the Date from slashes to dashes

The format that you require is not one of the options available to me either
using v2002 SP3.

However, you can create an AutoText or AutoCorrect entry to any format that
you require.

I use an AutoText to get the date with Ordinals for the day of the month.

Follow the procedure below:
From the Insert menu, choose Date and Time...
In the Date & Time Dialog, ensure that the "Update automatically" checkbox
is ticked.
Choose any format, probably best to use the format that is the nearest match
to your required option.
That will place the date on your document as a field entry.
Right click onto this field and choose from the shortcut menu the option:
Toggle Field Code.
You should see something like {DATE \@ "yyyy-MM-dd"}.
Simply overwrite the format picture enclosed within the quotes to the format
that you require.
Toggle the field code back to display the date in the format that you
prefer.

Now that you have that you can create the AutoText or AutoCorrect options.

Carefully select the date field, (which unless you have changed your tools
-options-view settings should have a grey background).

From the Tools menu, select the AutoCorrect Options... to display the
AutoCorrect Dialog Box.

AutoText:
Select the AutoText tab if not already selected.
Your current selection will be displayed in the "Enter AutoText Entry here"
textbox. Overtype the selected text with your required entry, I would use
*date
The asterisk keeps your entry at the top of the listing & date is a logical
description. Thus you can type the text date & automation will not take
over.
To enter your date in a word document, just type in the *date & press F3 or
select from the AutoText toolbar. You can convert your entry to a non
updateable date by clicking into the field and Pressing Ctrl-Shift-F9.

Creating an AutoCorrect is similar to the above process, but in use will
automatically correct your typing. I prefer to use the Autotext Options
which you can print and is relatively easy to backup.

You can use the procedure above to create dates in any format required
including a date like 27th, November 2005 using the combined field entry
below.

{date \@ "d" \*ordinal}, {date \@ "MMMM yyyy"}

Hope this long description helps.

Have you tried looking at the date format in Regional Settings in Control
Panel.

Sorry, I can't give you more details because our IT service doesn't allow us
access to all that stuff - network security reasons!!!

Subject: [mso] Changing the Date from slashes to dashes

Hi everyone -

When I am in Word 2003 and select Insert/Date & Time, I no longer find a
format for "dashes". I can do a 12/19/05 but I cannot find a way to do
12-19-05. Maybe there's a patch for this?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Gaynel
