You must change the style definition for your TOC styles. Format > Style
> [select the TOC style] > Modify > Format > Border. In the Borders and
Shading dialog box, click the Shading tab. Make sure the Apply To list
says Paragraph. In the Patterns area, from the Style list, select Clear.
For good measure, click No Fill in the Fill area, too.
