Do a Compact & Repair (Tools/Database Utilities menu).
This will take you back to the last number used. Ie if you still have 10
records in your list, your next one will be 11.
If you have any gaps in your numbering of the existing records, you will
have to delete the Auto number, then add it again.

Subject: [mso] Changing auto numbers in an access table
Hi,
I have been experimenting with tables and forms and am now ready to use
a table I earlier created which has an auto number ID preceding each
record. What I have noticed however is that while I deleted the old
records and have begun to insert new entries the auto number is
continuing on from where it finished with the old records. For
example if I had 10 records before and wiped them off and started over
again the auto number is seeing the first of my new records as "11".
How can I reset this so that it reflects the number of new records in
my table.
Many thanks,
Paul.
