Robert,
Under tools, go to Options, Spelling and click on the "AutoCorrect" button
at the bottom of the page. If you have "Replace text as you type" checked,
either uncheck or delete "replace ballance with balance" by selecting
"ballance" in the list and clicking the delete button.

Subject: [mso] Adding word/name to spell checker in Excel 2000?
I use the name "Ballance" quite a lot in my Excel spreadsheets. Excel tries
stubbornly to change that to "Balance" which in this case is wrong.
"Ballance" is correct; it is how the family spelled their name. When I
attempt to add "Ballance" to the Spell Checker, it immediately self-corrects
to "Balance" and then adds it. Does anyone know how to explain to Excel I do
want the double L in the name?
Yes, the name is/was actually spelled with two Ls. I understand Excel's
confusion. I do not understand Excel's refusal to allow me to enter this
word/name though.
I probably now have a couple dozen of the word "Balance" which could be
removed save one. I am starting to think this will involve a reinstall, but
I hope not.
Thanks,
Robert
