The file must be renamed to be recoverable. The first byte can't be a
question mark.
I'm surprised the utility you used doesn't give you the option to do that or
tell you if it's recoverable or not, or am I missing something here?
Try Directory Snoop from our Files area.

It's very easy to use with an Explorer like interface.
Browse for the deleted file(it will be in red) and then right click it and
choose Unerase. Then give it a different name and save.
