[msexchange] upgrading software and box

I'm about to replace our existing exchange 5.5 box with a new box and
upgrade to 2000. I want to start from scratch but I need some data from my
current box i.e. current mail in users boxes. Can someone tell me the best
way to upgrade and migrate at the same time? Or would it be better to
upgrade then import?
