One thing to watch out for here.

When you move mailboxes from one server to the other before decommissioni=
ng, do it in small groups of mailboxes.

Ive found in the past if you select a large group of mailboxes (say 100-2=
00 or more) you can cripple your exchange servers especially for users wh=
o are still using them.=20

You don't seem to have missed anything, but I'd advise you to do integrit=
y
checks and consistency checks before you migrate data across, and don't
proceed until you run out of errors and warnings.  I've been burnt with
missing information before.

You're going about it the right way, of course.  Just follow the KB artic=
le,
and be on the ball with your backups.  Be prepared to treat it as a
distaster recovery, because upgrading to 2k is a disaster you will need t=
o
recover from at the local pub :-)
