I want to say I heard (and I could be 100% wrong) that if you ran =
eseutil /p
without any service packs you lose your attachment table or something =
like
that. I heard that a couple of years ago, so maybe someone could verify.
Good Luck,
Rich

Subject: [msexchange] Lost Attachments
Hi All,
We've got quite a serious problem. Over the last while we've had all =
sorts
of problems with Exchange Server 5.5 (SP4) running on a Windows NT
4.0 (SP6) Server.
To cut a long story short we've finally got round to doing a repair on =
the
Private Store (piv.edb) database file. After running the repair what we =
are
now finding is that most of our attachments are missing. There are some
still remaining but this seems a very small number. We had also run an
Exchange Defrag and as you would expect the overall Exchange Database
size has been reduced. However if we go into the mailbox resource within
Exchange Server Administration we find that all the users have what =
looks
like their original figures in terms of space used, number of items etc.
Am I right in thinking that what we have lost is the pointers to the=20
attachments and that the original attachments are still held within the
priv.edb file? If this is the case can we repair the pointers so that =
the
attachments can be viewed again? Or are we completely knackered and=20
we'll have to revert to backup?
Regards,
Rab.
