This is to let everyone know, that regretfully, we have taken the difficult
decision to cancel the proposed tour to South Africa next year.
Escalating costs when you add in insurance and food - have taken the
overall per person cost to a level which we feel is just not achievable via
fundraising and will place too much of a financial burden on parents to make
up the shortfall.
The aim of next year¹s tour has always been to celebrate the great rugby,
community and friendship we have all enjoyed over the years so we must focus
on ensuring that a maximum number of boys and also parents who wish to
join are able to participate.
We had great hopes and ambitions in terms of our fundraising, but the
reality is that it is just too large a mountain to climb and burden for the
relatively few individuals from the group focused on the fundraising
efforts.
Our plan now is to research and propose a more financially viable tour
option likely to be at the end of August 2018 in the pre-season rugby
period, in Europe.
We will continue our fundraising efforts to not only reduce the cost per
player, but to enable us to do some extra fun activities.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to those
individuals who have already committed so much in terms of fundraising
effort and request that moving forwards, everyone tries to do their bit to
work towards a great tour next year.
Remember this is a club¹ and if we all step up and pitch in, we can make
this a deserving way to celebrate the great experience the boys and us as
parents have had together at Maidenhead over the years for some, from as
early as U6!
Apologies to those who may have started to make holiday plans for next year
around the South Africa tour, but we hope we are giving you enough time to
rethink.
We will come back to you as soon as possible with information about the new
tour and thanks for your understanding.
