Hello all. I wanted to take a minute to give you all a heads up on some changes concerning your property taxes should you own real estate in Arizona. You may not be aware but the state pays a portion of your property tax, what is known a "State Aid to Education". Only owner occupied property qualifies for this credit. It is not applicable to rentals or part time residences. You can see this reference in the top right hand corner of your tax bill. The legislature passed a new law that in essence says you must demonstrate to the assessor that you do occupy your house in order to get the credit. In February of 2012 you will receive a form that you must fill out and send back to the assessor in order to qualify. If you fail to fill it out you will be charged the additional tax. The difference can range from $100.00 to $600.00 depending on the value of your home. I mention this because the form is already available on line at http://www.co.yavapai.az.us/WorkArea/linkit.aspx?LinkIdentifier=id&ItemID=64888 . If you wish you can fill it out now and send it to the assessor so you won't need to worry about it later. The county is trying very hard to get the word out on this so if you can tell you friends, neighbors and family that would be great.
