rob, is it possible to create a form with MT? My cousin and her husband run a
business and she is curious to see how it would fit for their business.

Subject: [moneytalks] Re: versions and features
Hi Laura, see my comments in your original message below.
Laura>Now my question. My version is 1.2.1.0. I bought it when we moved in
2007
and I had to change my checking account to a new bank. Is there a newer
version? What features does the latest version have that this one doesn't
have? Can I install the newer one over this one and have it work with my
older records?
Well, I'll let you read the What's New info as Steve suggested. But let me just
say that if you couldn't upgrade and continue using your existing data files,
we wouldn't be doing our job!
Laura>Now the bugs/idiosyncrasies: When I am using it and arrow down to the
transaction I am interested in looking at, I route jaws to pc and hit end of
line to read the balance there. But half the time this doesn't work. My
cursor ends up in the upper part of the screen somewhere on a different
record.
In fact, especially when I jump to end of document, either jaws or MT is not
putting me on the last transaction. It seems like something spurious is
happening as I close out and reload and it works (usually), but it is
annoying.
Is this something known, or am I misunderstanding how to use the program?
I recommend using the navigation commands in Money Talks, instead of trying to
review the screen with JAWS. Pressing End will move you to the last column in
the current transaction, usually the running balance. If all is well, this
value will be spoken automatically by JAWS when you move to it. You can of
course repeat it by pressing the JAWS command Insert+Keypad 5.
As you discovered, there are times when JAWS becomes a bit confused about which
cell is highlighted in Money Talks. When this happens, press Insert+Escape to
issue the JAWS refresh command. Much quicker than restarting Money Talks.
Laura>Now for the feature requests: I myself use only a fraction of the
functions
of this program -- just maintaining my checkbook -- but there are times I
would like to save the data in another for -- say a text file, and not just
a qip file, whatever that is. Are there more choices in exporting/importing
data in the newer versions of MT?
The newer version adds exporting to CSV (comma-separated values) files.
Laura>Also, is a qip file something related to the Quicken money management
program? I know Quicken is useful in preparing taxes, which I'm interested
in, but never looked into it. This year for taxes I had a tedious time
arrowing through all the entries that were deductable in various categories.
The QIF file is an old semi-standard file for moving transactions in and out of
Quicken. We only use it because most banks offer such files as downloads.
Laura>I know MT provides for marking categories, but there is no way I've been
able to find to search and summarize the transactions. I couldn't even find
a way to list all the transactions in the year, or jump back to the start of
the year -- I had to arrow up. I ended up splitting the mt data file into
separate files for each year. Is this something I should be able to avoid,
or is searching as limited as it seems?
The new version has commands for limiting the view to this year or last year.
Also, check out the Category Summary or Credit/Debit Summary commands. To print
the results of one of these commands, simply copy there output to the
clipboard, paste it in your favorite text editor, and print.
Most of us prefer to keep all transactions in one file rather then dividing
them by years, since you can search one file very easily. My file goes back to
2004. Once you learn the commands on the Restrict menu, you'll wish you hadn't
taken an axe to your file!
