An easier way would be to use the F2 swap command. Just point to the transaction and press F2. The program will swap that transaction with the one below it if they both have the same date.

I believe the order of any series of entries with the same date is the
original order you first wrote them. The item field isn't used for
sorting, rather the date field. and when writing a series of transactions on the
same dates, the order you first entered the transactions remains the order. I suspect you'll need to reenter the transactions in the correct check
order you desire, then delete the duplicates, leaving you with the correct
check order.
