[moneytalks] Re: category summary questions

I suppose this error should be trapped. Also would be nice if pressing
control D would say something like the entry has been deleted instead of
just D.

Paul and Rob,

Paul I did a double control plus d on the subcategory field and the first
press deleted the subcat, the second generated a microsoft encountered an
error and needs to close message. Do you want to send the error report,
blah, blah, blah. Don't know why that happened, just tells me to not do a
double control d. It may mean something to Rob though or yourself.

Paul,

You should see

Dining
with all the totals

followed by

Dining:lunch
with all the totals for that lunch subcat

Followed by
Dining:dinner
with all the totals for that dinner subcat

Hi, Steve. First of all, thanks for giving me all of this help.
I really appreciate it.
I think this is an awesome program
Somehow, I think my sighted wife does as well as now she doesn't have to
manage the checkbook<grin>.
Originally, I thought she and I were going to keep both her account and my
new one for a month or two until I got comfortable. Seems I am pretty much
it these days<grin>. At least she looks over my shoulder when I am not sure
of what I am doing<grin>
I do have a category of dining with a subcategory of either lunch or
dinner. Try that and see if the dining category totals up the entire amount
instead of displaying several dining categories.
I will check that myself.
However, I don't have a subcategory for groceries. For some reason, the
groceries ones seem to be displaying in separate paragraphs as well just
like the dining ones.
Utilities is another one I have subcategories for, but as I recall, that one
also displays in separate paragraphs. My subcategories include cell phone,
satellite, and gas and electric, I think. Once I pay water and garbage, that
one will be added.
I assumed that we would see one category called utilities with the total
amount then the average and the number of items within that category. Unless
I am missing something, then I think it would be neat to see satellite as a
subcategory with the total amount, the average and the number of items
followed by gas and electric with the same fields, etc.
I will take another look, but I am pretty sure that Dining doesn't total up
all instances followed by its average and the number of items.
Thanks.

Paul,

Try to make subcategories for all the categories you use. I think when you
do that, you'll will see a proper breakdown. Since I've not only used
categories, but always jhave associated a category with a subcategory, I'm
not able to duplicate what you see. Perhaps for fun, I'll create a little
fake registry to see how the program would work with only categories.

Subject: [moneytalks] category summary questions

Hi, everyone.
I have been reading my manual and trying some of the things there. I tried
the category summary feature.
It seems to show the groceries category item, as an example, with separate
items.
It doesn't seem to group all groceries or all dining together as one
paragraph with the total amount and the number of items. I see the same for
deposits.
I know that dining might have a subcategory and maybe that's why it isn't
displayed properly.
