Did you install anything around that time?
You might be able to go to Control Panel's Programs and Features and sort it by 
date to check.

I would say that it started three or four weeks ago, and I can't trace it to 
anything that happened differently on the machine.

The uninstall process should be enough to remove all traces.
Let me ask you a few more questions:
Are there any other apps that exhibit this behavior, especially ones that use 
MFC like Studio Recorder or Talking Typer?

I got our IT support person on the phone this morning and had him compare the 
speed that MT loads on my desktop and laptop. My systems both use the same 
antivirus. One takes two seconds. The other takes from 12 to 14, and the 
desktop that takes longer is by far the faster computer.

He is unwilling to disable the antivirus given both machines run the same. He 
wonders if the uninstall and reinstall I did was enough. I used the add/remove 
programs, and the APH directory was removed from the program files directory. I 
then used the most recent download from APH to reinstall. I assume there is 
nothing more I should have done to refresh this?
