Whilst the main concentration has been on the size you can machine, the
boiler should also be given some thought.

A round topped parallel boiler is MUCH easier to construct than a belpair
taper boiler. Even if you are wealthy enough to buy it, the latter type of
boiler will cost a great deal more.

As for backhead fittings, you CAn make them closer to scale than LBSC did,
it all depends upon how much work you want to put in. Similarly, you can add
scale features and make it more true to life, if you so wish.
At the same time, the prime purpose of a steam loco is to that it should
run. If you built one as per the "words and music", you could always add
finishing details at a later date, and could also make scale backhead
fittings at your leisure.

Rich,

Bear in mind that I am coming into model engineering from a background of
building models in 7mm and 10mm to the foot, in which I tried to get the
details as near to scale size as the Mark 1 eyeball could achieve.
