[modeleng] Re: it's a bit quiet here...

Hi Alan

I was away in sunny Cape Town during February, enjoying the sun, the sea,
the company and the wine (not necessarily in that order!)

Upon my return, I sold my trusty old friend - the Emco Maximat VP10 lathe -
happily it went to a good home. This left a large space in the workshop,
and some funds. I visited Warco's showroom, near Guildford, and after a
happy couple of hours considering various possibilities, bought a VMC Turret
Mill which, unlike a Bridgeport, (beyond my means); fits into the available
space. I made a special deal with Warco and they delivered the machine,
fully assembled and ready to go, and placed it in the desired place in the
workshop. I had it equipped with a power drive for the X-axis, and a
two-piece vice, which bolts onto the bed. I have done a small amount of
machining, and am, thus far, very happy with the purchase. I chose an R8
spindle, which enables me to use the tooling from my horizontal mill.

Once having disposed of the Maximat, I was forced to use the rather
intimidating Hardinge, and am now much more at home with this lathe, and am
impressed with its capabilities - not bad for an old lady approaching her
40th year!

All of this has meant a complete reorganisation of the workshop - much of it
badly needed! I only hope that I will remember where I have put
everything!

So - my holiday and all of the excitement in the workshop has indeed kept me
away from the Internet - what are YOUR excuses, all of you other chaps?

Cheers! Hubert
